Terms of use

Last updated October 19, 2026

These terms apply when you use belowthesill.com. The site is owned and run by Estefanía André Feijóo; her details are in the legal notice. By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

Information, not professional advice

Below the Sill is an independent publication. Our guides explain how the parts of a house below the first floor work, what problems look like and what the usual options are. They are general information, not an inspection, a diagnosis or professional advice about your home, and they don’t replace an on-site assessment by a qualified professional.

Homes, soils, climates and local rules vary. Building code requirements depend on where you live and which edition your jurisdiction has adopted; when a guide quotes a code, it says which one. Prices are dated examples or published ranges, not quotes. Before you buy, build, repair or remove anything, check the details for your home and your area.

Calculators and checklists

Our calculators and checklists give estimates based on the sources, formulas and assumptions explained on each page. They depend on the numbers you enter and can’t see your home. Treat a result as a starting point for a decision, not as a measurement, a diagnosis or a guarantee. The tools run in your browser; nothing you enter is stored or sent to us.

Safety

Some situations covered on this site can be dangerous: standing water near electricity, gas smells, structural movement, sewage and large areas of mold. Our guides point out when to stop and call a professional or emergency services. Your safety comes first, and you are responsible for deciding whether a job is one you can do safely.

Using our content

The text, diagrams, checklists and design of this site are protected by copyright. Some photos are licensed from third parties and can’t be reused from this site. You’re welcome to:

  • read, print and download our guides and printable checklists for your own personal, non-commercial use;
  • quote a short passage with a clear credit and a link to the page it comes from;
  • link to any page on the site.

Please don’t republish whole guides or large parts of them, present our content as your own, or use it to train or feed automated systems that republish it. To use one of our diagrams, ask us first.

We link to other websites, mostly public agencies, building codes and technical sources, so you can check what we say. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

The site may show ads served by Google in the future. Ads are chosen by the ad provider, not by us. An ad on a page is not a recommendation, and it doesn’t influence what our guides say. We don’t sell repairs, refer contractors or earn commissions from the products we mention.

Accuracy and liability

We research, review and correct our guides as described in our editorial policy, but we can’t guarantee that every page is complete, current or free of errors. If you find a mistake, please tell us.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses or damage resulting from decisions or work based on the information or tools on this site. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can’t be limited by law, or any rights you have as a consumer.

Changes and applicable law

We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you use the site as a consumer, this doesn’t take away the protection given to you by the mandatory laws of the place where you live.
